Workshop Description:
This workshop will focus on best practices for welcoming new students into your program to encourage growth and limit early attrition. We will discuss practical ways to create a culture of belonging in students' first days, with attention to both the physical environment and communication strategies. We will also focus on how to share classroom expectations in a way that is motivating for students, by focusing on their personal development goals.

Workshop Learning Objectives - Participants will be able to:

  • assess their enrollment process with a social-ecological approach to student success,
  • apply adult learning principles to their orientation design, and
  • reflect on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in the context of student performance.
