1:00-4:00 PM (one-part hybrid workshop)
First Literacy

160 Boylston Street, 2nd Floor
Boston, MA 02116 (across from the Boston Common)

Workshop Description:
Students often look for ways to express their gratitude for the learning, support and life guidance they experience in our programs. By the end of this workshop, participants will have a multi-lesson project in which students can unleash their creativity as they design expressions of their appreciation.

Workshop Learning Objectives - Participants will be able to:

  • consider and explore (with students) a performance-based approach to expressing thanks to their Program-staff/funders/volunteers etc.,
  • identify Massachusetts Writing/Listening/Speaking Standards and CCR Standards, across Levels, that support this curriculum project, and
  • specify, and try out specific elements of the lesson plans.

June Murphy-Katz has been a teacher at Framingham Adult ESL+ for 20 years. Her previous professional commitments in education included teaching high school social studies, working with college age women in a residential setting, and supporting special educators as an assistant in middle and elementary school classrooms. As a working actor she has consulted in area businesses on organizational change, and currently does medical education in Boston medical schools.

This workshop is free to staff of all Massachusetts non-profit ABE and ESOL Programs.
