Zoom virtual workshop
The “Know Your Rights” workshop is designed to help providers better support the immigrant students and families with whom they work. The workshop includes an overview of the current immigration landscape, legal updates, immigration rights, a brief overview of the immigration court process, and resources that can be provided to students and families. Materials include bilingual "Know Your Rights" cards, a "Know Your Rights" summary sheet, and a list of legal services organizations.
Participants will learn
~ a person's rights when encountered by immigration officers,
~ updates in the immigration landscape and some immigration law basics,
~ how to support people who may be concerned about immigration issues,
~ and resources that can be provided, including where to refer someone for a free immigration consultation.
Michaela Wolf-Sorokin is the Community Engagement Coordinator at The PAIR Project (Political Asylum/Representation), where she works to increase immigrants’ access to accurate information about their rights, helps to build PAIR’s partnerships with immigrant community organizations. and manages PAIR's network of volunteers. Mikaela also works as a paralegal on the Detention Program where she assists with cases and coordination of legal orientation presentations for individuals in immigration detention. She joined PAIR in 2018.
This workshop is free to staff of all Massachusetts non-profit ABE and ESOL programs.
