How to Start the Year Right with Google Classroom

Workshop Description:
In this 2-part workshop, you will discuss how to set up Google Classroom in order to take full advantage of its features and start off the semester or year successfully. The workshop will cover making use of the stream and choosing between different types of classwork and attachments based on one's objectives; organizing classwork into topics; creating a library of resources, such as recommended websites and YouTube videos; and connecting Classroom with non-Google educational apps, such as Kahoot and Nearpod. Participants should have a Google account in order to participate in the workshop and try out the features between sessions. .
(Please note: The presenter will count on your attendance at both sessions.)
Learning Objectives: In summary, participants will learn to
- choose between different types of classwork and attachments;
- organize classwork into topics and create a library of resources for students;
- connect Classroom with non-Google educational apps.
Presenter:
Andrew Shapira has worked in adult education for 12 years. He has presented workshops on Google apps and other online tools (Nearpod, Padlet, Edpuzzle, Quizizz, etc.) at First Literacy, SABES, and the MCAE Network conference. He is the coordinator of the English Language Learning and Literacy program at the Newton Free Library and an ESOL teacher at Framingham Adult ESL Plus.
This workshop is free to staff of all Massachusetts non-profit ABE and ESOL Programs.
