High School Equivalency Testing in Massachusetts

In this workshop, Sianna Loftus, the Massachusetts State Chief Examiner for HiSET and GED, will discuss High School Equivalency (HSE) testing options in Massachusetts. This workshop will include comparisons of the two HSE exams offered in Massachusetts and information on state testing policies and initiatives. Participants will have opportunities to ask questions, consider case studies, and discuss practical ways to support HSE test takers throughout the workshop.

Workshop Learning Objectives:

• Key differences between the HiSET and GED.

• Massachusetts testing policies, including policies around testing modalities, retesting, free testing, and combining scores from different test vendors.

• Options for disability and English language learner accommodations.

• Who to contact for support with HSE testing issues.

Presenter:

Sianna Loftus is the High School Equivalency (HSE) Specialist at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). As part of her role, she serves as the Massachusetts State Chief Examiner for HiSET and GED. She and her HSE office colleagues oversee all HiSET and GED testing for the state, set state testing policies, and work with the test vendors to ensure equitable access to high-quality HSE testing in Massachusetts.
