Critical Teaching Strategies for Teachers of Students with Emotional Disabilities

Friday, December 12, 2025
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM (online via Zoom)

This workshop is designed to provide teachers with practical hands-on strategies when teaching adult learners with emotional disabilities and/or trauma. Learn critical trauma based skills that will help create positive relationships, between students and staff while being cognizant of individual student needs and experiences. A student cannot reach their potential if they do not feel acknowledged and recognized and this workshop will provide methods to help each student learn to the best of their ability.

Workshop Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to spot signs of emotional disabilities and/or trauma
  • Acquire the skills necessary to help foster positive relationships with students while addressing their individual needs

Presenter:
Lisa Stamegna started her career working for technical companies in "corporate America" while living in Boston, Chicago and Houston.  After a decade working in high tech, she decided that she needed a change and decided to pursue a career in Special Education. She earned a Masters in Special Education from UMass Boston and began teaching for Boston Public Schools.  She spent 14 years of her career at the McKinley School, which is a substantially separate therapeutic school for students with emotional disabilities.  She then transferred to Madison Park Technical Vocational High School and became a Coordinator of Special Education Services for the 18-22 year old population.

This workshop is free to staff of all Massachusetts non-profit ABE and ESOL Programs.
