Let’s tackle a challenge we all face: helping low-level English learners navigate our tech-driven world without overwhelm. You know those students who freeze at the sight of a login screen or struggle to send a simple email? We see you—and we’ve designed this intimate two-part series just for you. No jargon, no fluff—just practical, student-centered strategies to make digital literacy accessible, engaging, and part of your everyday teaching. This workshop is great for ESOL teachers of adult learners at beginner and low-Intermediate levels.
Part 1: Building Blocks for Beginner Digital Navigators
Part 2: Celebrate, Troubleshoot & Thrive
Workshop Learning Objectives:
- Learn how to spot the hidden hurdles of common applications and EdTech programs
- Learn how to use plain language, intuitive images, and step-by-step scaffolds to demystify devices and software
- Sneak digital skills into your existing lessons (no adding hours to your day!)
- How to weave digital fluency naturally into your routine—so skills stick long-term
Presenter:
Franki Anderson is an innovative ESOL teacher specializing in digital literacy for low-language learners. With a background in new media journalism and professional writing, she has taught diverse student populations—from young children to adults—since 2021. Franki leverages her unique skill set to develop powerful, engaging classroom routines that bridge the gap between language acquisition and digital communication skills. Her "Pictures to Stories" method, which she recently presented at the Massachusetts Coalition for Adult Education (MCAE), is one way she uses her expertise in making digital tools accessible and effective for all learners.
This workshop is free to staff of all Massachusetts non-profit ABE and ESOL Programs.
