Engaging Classroom Activities for the Adult ESL Learner

This interactive, hands-on workshop will introduce practical and engaging activities designed to energize adult ESL classrooms and boost student participation. Participants will experience a variety of strategies—ranging from low-prep icebreakers to skill-focused tasks—that can be adapted for multiple proficiency levels. By the end of the session, teachers will leave with ready-to-use activities, ideas for fostering communication and collaboration, and tips for tailoring lessons to meet diverse learner needs.

Workshop Learning Objectives:

  • Gain new strategies and activities to use with English language learners at all levels
  • Learn how to tailor lessons and activities to meet all student needs

Presenter:

Janice Batista is an experienced educator, program director, and professional development trainer specializing in adult ESL instruction. With over 20 years of experience in curriculum design, teacher training, and classroom instruction, Janice is passionate about equipping educators with practical tools that spark engagement and foster meaningful learning. Her workshops are known for their energy, interactivity, and immediately applicable strategies.

This workshop is free to staff of all Massachusetts non-profit ABE and ESOL Programs.
